NINTENDO GOES GOLD

Japan-based Nintendo Corp. will bring its new role-playing game to the North American market next month. The game is a 3-D culmination of the Zelda series of games for Nintendo's Super NES and Game Boy systems. It follows the adventures of Link as he tries to rescue the Princess Zelda from an evil ruler. To promote the game, Nintendo is offering consumers a chance to purchase a special limited edition gold-colored game cartridge when they pre-order a copy of the Legend of Zelda. As part of the promotion, consumers spend $10 to reserve a limited edition gold cartridge. When they pick up the game, $10 will be deducted from the total price of the game. Retailers participating in the promotion include Wal-Mart Canada, Toys R Us, Real Canadian Superstore, Multimicro, Electronic Boutique, Microplay and Rogers Video. In Canada, Nintendo will promote the game using print, TV and cinema ads created by Leo Burnett Company of Toronto. The GCI Group of Toronto is handling PR.
