NextMedia president Nancy Smith has won a first-ever Canadian Embassy Businesswomen's Award, recognizing her contribution to the Canadian business community. Smith and 12 other Canadian businesswomen received the award at a conference in Washington, D.C. this week. This is Smith's second business award in the past year. Last November, she was presented with the Canadian Entrepreneur of the Year Award. "When I set up NextMedia my aim was to create the kind of advertising and communications agency I always wanted to hire, but couldn't easily find," Smith says in a release. "It's been a wonderful experience following through on that dream, watching it grow and develop." NextMedia is an integrated agency whose services include media planning and buying, communications services such as public and media relations, as well as entertainment industry consulting. Smith is also co-founder of Canadian Women in Communications, and serves on the advisory boards of Women in Capital Markets, The Canadian Film Centre, Women in Film and Television and Ryerson Polytechnic University. She is also a board member of the Toronto Board of Trade and a YWCA Woman of Distinction.
