ONLINE PURCHASING POPULAR, BUT CONSUMERS STILL CONCERNED
By Adnews Staff
More than one in three Canadians expect to purchase something via the Internet over the next couple of years, according to a study done by Ekos Research Associates of Toronto. However, consumers are still wary about the security of the Internet. About three-quarters of the respondents said they would not be willing to give their credit card number over the Internet even if they were buying something from a well-known business. Canadians would be more willing to shop on the Internet if privacy and consumer protection measures were in place. Ekos has conducted three surveys on e-commerce over the last year. The most recent one was done in June and involved 2,200 interviews. Last week, the federal government tabled legislation that includes measures to protect personal information.
