AMEX TO TARGET SMALL BUSINESSES

Amex Canada of Markham, Ont. is planning an aggressive push into the small business market, but is keeping mum about its plans. Company spokesperson Audrey Adams White told Adnews last week that Amex will enhance its current small business offerings by the end of next year, and will launch new products and services beginning early next year. Amex already markets a small business credit card that features quarterly management information reports, various insurance options and travel services, as well as the opportunity to be involved in the company's Membership Rewards program. Amex says in a release that it will put "significant resources behind the development and marketing of new products and services to expand its customer base among the over two million small and home businesses." "The small business sector is one of the key drivers of potential growth in the Canadian economy that deserves a lot more attention and nurturing," new business development head Debra Ambrose says in a release. She also said the small business sector is underservered and that it is a niche Amex could fill. Advertising for Amex is handled by Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto.
