SECOND CUP GAINS MORE GROUND OUTSIDE CAFES

The Second Cup of Toronto is once again moving its coffee outside its specialty cafes. The company has signed a deal with Delta Hotels and Resorts to provide its coffee at the 23 Delta properties across Canada. The move is being made so Second Cup can get more consumers to try out its coffee. Last month, the specialty coffee retailer announced it plans to open Second Cup cafes in Maxi & Co. superstores. Each cafe will be tailored to the community and will be in stores located in Montreal, St. Laurent and St. Luc, all in Quebec, as well as in Waterloo, Ont. The Second Cup plans to roll out its cafes in all Maxi & Co. superstores over the next two years. The company began moving into the retail market earlier this summer by selling Second Cup coffee beans and pre-ground, prepackaged coffee in grocery stores in Ontario and Montreal. By the end of September, the coffee will be sold in supermarkets in Halifax, Vancouver and Calgary. Second Cup operates 355 cafes across the country. It also has a 70% stake in Coffee People, which operates over 300 cafes in the U.S. and internationally.
