SOUTHAM PUTS MAGAZINES UNDER ONE UNIT
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Southam Inc. has set up a consumer magazine division to handle the management of its two magazines: Saturday Night and The Financial Post Magazine. Southam acquired The Financial Post Magazine when it purchased The Financial Post newspaper from Toronto-based Sun Media Inc. Saturday Night publisher and chief operating officer Maureen Cavan will head up the new unit. Cavan says in a release that both magazines are complimentary titles which appeal to similar readers. She is planning to package advertising initiatives for both publications. Currently, Saturday Night is distributed through Southam newspapers in Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. Beginning in November, the monthly magazine will also be distributed in Toronto to subscribers of The National Post, Southam's new national daily newspaper that will launch Oct. 27. Saturday Night is also available by subscription and on newsstands across the country. The Financial Post Magazine will be included with all subscription and home delivered copies of The National Post. Southam publishes 34 daily newspapers across Canada, as well as community newspapers in B.C., Alberta, Ontario and the Atlantic provinces.
