CHUM SET TO LAUNCH MUSIC STATION

Toronto-based CHUM Television is set to beam its new music station into five million households across Canada. The company has signed agreements with Shaw Cablesystems of Calgary, Rogers Cablesystems of Toronto and Cogeco Cable of Montreal to carry its new MuchMoreMusic TV station. Other distributors include Videotron Communications, Fundy Cable, Bragg Communications, Cable Atlantic, Access Communications, Regional Cablesystems, Star Choice Television, ExpressVu and UMG Cable. The specialty channel will begin airing Sept. 30 on Rogers and Cogeco and on Oct. 9 on Shaw cable. MuchMoreMusic is a 24-hour adult contemporary music station that will play light rock, classic hits, soul, R&B, as well as some reggae, jazz, new music videos, concerts and specialty programming.
To promote the specialty channel, CHUM will launch radio ads across Canada at the end of the month. The ads will be created in-house. In addition, CHUM has teamed up with six music labels to launch a double compilation CD featuring adult contemporary music. The CD will be branded as a MuchMoreMusic CD. CHUM's television assets include Citytv, The New VR, CFPL, CKNX, CHWI, and CHRO. Its specialty channels include MuchMusic, MusiquePlus, Bravo!, Access - The Education Station, MusiMax, Space - The Imagination Station and CablePulse-24.
