WHITE RIBBON CAMPAIGN READY FOR ANOTHER YEAR
By Adnews Staff
The White Ribbon Campaign will be at it again this fall, raising money for women's groups in Canada and raising awareness that men need to stop violence against women. The non-profit organization will launch a 30-second TV campaign later this month that will encourage men to speak out about violence against women. The ad focuses on a man in the stands during a fight in a hockey game and asks, "Why is it when a man hits another man it's O.K. to make a lot of noise, but when a man hits a woman, it's O.K. to remain silent?" The TV spot will be followed up at the end of October with a radio spot and a direct mail piece distributed to 100,000 people across Canada. In November, the campaign will also include transit posters and brochures. The campaign was created by Grey Direct of Toronto. The White Ribbon Campaign is a group of men working to end violence against women by raising money for women's organizations and educating boys and men about violence against women. The group was formed after the 1989 Montreal massacre.
