FUNDY JUMPS INTO PHONE WARS

Fundy Communications of St. John, New Brunswick entered the long distance calling wars this week. The company launched a new flat rate long distance calling plan this week called Canada Lingo. Under the deal, subscribers can call anywhere in Canada for $19.95 a month, at a limit of 500 minutes. For a flat rate of $17.95 a month, customers can call anywhere in the Maritimes. In addition, the service comes bundled with one month of basic cable, free of charge. Canada Lingo will be promoted using TV, radio and print ads created by GCP Strategic Communications of Moncton, New Brunswick.

Fundy is the latest company to offer flat-rate long distance calling. Over the summer, Bell Canada, AT&T Canada and Sprint Canada, as well as a few provincial phone companies began offering flat rate long distance plans.
