E INK TO DEVELOP TECHNOLOGY TO CHANGE ADS AT DROP OF A HAT

E Ink Corp. of Cambridge, Massachusetts has developed a new technology that will allow retailers and ad agencies to change signs and ads remotely. The technology is called electronic ink. It will allow retailers to change their electronic in-store signs without having to create new ones or destroy old signs. The sign changes will be made electronically from a remote location. Advertisers will be able to update their ads instantly. For example, a fast food company could promote their breakfast meals in the morning using transit ads, then change the ads electronically from a remote location to promote its dinner meals. A car dealership could promote convertibles on sunny days and sport utility vehicles during bad weather. The technology will be available to U.S. retailers early next year. In the future, it will be available for outdoor and transit ads. E Ink plans to bring the technology to Canada, but hasn't signed up any Canadian retailers or advertising corporations yet.
