REGIONAL CLOSES ACQUISITION DEALS

Regional Cablesystems of Edmonton has expanded its subscriber base. The cable operator closed two transactions in Newfoundland this week, acquiring Bonavista Cablevision Ltd. and BMC Cablevision Company Ltd. Bonavista services about 2,000 cable subscribers in Bonavista, Elliston, Port Union, Melrose and Catalina, while BMC services 800 customers in the Bloomfield, Musgravetown and Canning's Cove area. Regional also closed its deals to buy four Alberta cable companies: Progressive Cable TV Ltd., Prairie Cable TV Ltd., Coronation Cable TV Ltd. and Western Canadian Communications. Progressive, Prairie and Coronation add 1,500 customers to Regional's subscriber base, while WCCI serves about 4,600 customers.
