BLOCKBUSTER MOVES INTO PHONE CARD BUSINESS
By Adnews Staff
Blockbuster Canada of Toronto is getting into the prepaid phone card business. The video rental chain began selling branded phone cards this week. They are available in denominations of 20 minutes, 40 minutes and 70 minutes. In addition, Blockbuster will offer an additional free five-minute phone card with each purchase. Blockbuster decided to begin selling phone cards to give its customers added value and convenience, spokesperson Pat Gibbons told Adnews yesterday. The phone cards will be promoted using point-of-purchase materials and print ads in Blockbuster's in-store magazine. The campaign will be created in-house. Blockbuster will also be able to promote its special offers through the card. Each time a consumer uses the card, they will hear a series of promotional spots and special offers. The phone cards will be supplied by Phonetime International of Mississauga, Ont.
