BOWES BUYS TWO MORE COMMUNITY NEWSPAPERS

Toronto-based Bowes Publishers Ltd., a division of Sun Media Corp., has bought two Ontario community newspapers: The Northern Times in Kapuskasing and The Timmins Times. The Northern Times is a weekly broadsheet newspaper with a circulation of 5,000, while The Timmins Times is a twice-weekly tabloid with a controlled circulation of 19,000. The purchase also includes Norweb of Timmins, Ont., a six-unit press operation that prints The Northern Times and The Timmins Times, as well as various independently-owned weekly newspapers in northern Ontario.

Separately, Bowes has completed the sale of its 66% interest in Whistler Printing and Publishing to Lower Mainland Publishing of Vancouver, B.C. Bowes publishes five daily community newspapers, 95 weekly community newspapers and shopping guides in Canada and in Florida, as well as 19 farming and other specialty publications.
