IBM TO OPEN VIRTUAL STORES IN HOME COMPUTING OUTLETS

IBM Canada of Markham, Ont. plans to open Internet-based stores in its IBM Home Computing outlets. Called the IBM Virtual Store, the Internet outlet will host the computer maker's Personalized Computing program, which lets customers select a range of home networking, home automation, home entertainment, home computing and e-business computing solutions. In addition, the program offers installation and integration services tailored for different needs and budgets. The first Virtual Store will open in Markham, Ont. later this month. IBM plans to have the program running in all of its Home Computing outlets in the fall. The Virtual Store will give customers the flexibility to choose from a range of options such as microprocessor type, memory options, hard drive size, CD-ROM speeds and home networking adaptors.
