BCTV REACHES DEAL AFTER MONTH-LONG STRIKE
By Adnews Staff
BCTV workers may be back on the job this week. The station's union, CEP Local 814M and BCTV have reached a tentative deal that will include a 2% wage increase each year retroactive to March 1996, and a general wage increase for each of the next three years. The union has recommended acceptance of the deal and workers will vote on it on Friday. CEP Local 814 has been on strike since June. 10. The union went on strike because it hadn't had a contract for two years and wanted an average wage increase in a five-year contract. In addition, it is the first contract for the newsroom, which joined the union last year. There were also language issues dealing with such things as job security. The union represents 125 of BCTV's 222 employees including news reporters, camera operators, technicians, producers and sports reporters.
