SONY BRINGS NOTEBOOKS TO CANADA

Japan-based Sony Corp. brought three new notebook computers to the Canadian market last week. The machines are called the VAIO PCG-808, the VAIO PCG-735 and the VAIO PCG-731. The trio marries computing and home entertainment technologies. The PCG-808 is Sony's first notebook computer with a Pentium II processor. The machine runs at 266 MHz with 64 MB of SDRAM and a four gigabyte hard drive. The PCG-808 is 1.5-inches in height and uses a 13.3-inch color monitor. The PCG-735 and PCG-731 weigh 5.3 pounds and are 1.5-inches in thickness. The PCG-735 features a 233 MHz Pentium processor, 64 MB SDRAM and a removable 24X CD-ROM drive. The PCG-731 has a 200 MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology, a 2.1 gigabyte hard drive, a 12.1-inch color screen and a removable 24X CD-ROM drive. Sony will promote the new computers using national newspaper ads, as well as radio ads in Vancouver and Toronto. The campaign will be created by Strategic Ampersand of Toronto.
