MICROCELL TAKES FLIGHT IN ALBERTA
By Adnews Staff
Montreal-based Microcell Communications took its Fido airship to Alberta this week for the first time. The airship will follow Calgarians around town for the next several days during the Calgary Stampede. The airship promotes Microcell's Fido personal communication service. The service was launched in Alberta in April. The airship is five stories high and stretches almost half the length of a football field. It can stay up in the air for 15 hours at a time and will travel at speeds of up to 85 kph. An illumination system lights up the airship for traveling at night. Microcell originally launched its PCS service in November 1996. The service is available in several Canadian cities including Quebec City, Sherbrooke and Montreal, all in Quebec, as well as in Ottawa-Hull, Oshawa, Toronto, Barrie and Hamilton, all in Ontario. In addition, Fido is available in Edmonton, Vancouver and Victoria. Advertising for Microcell is done by BOS of Montreal.
