THE MINT EXPANDS COIN LINE UP

The Royal Canadian Mint has launched one new set of silver coins and expanded three others. The new collection celebrates Canadian sports. Four coins in this line will be issued in 1998. They will feature figure skating and speed skating, ski racing and ski jumping, soccer and Formula 1 auto racing. In addition, the mint has expanded its Aviation, Discovering Nature and Gray Wolf coin sets. The Aviation set now has two more coins which feature the Canadair CP-107 Argus, an anti-submarine aircraft, and the Canadair CL-215 Waterbomber. These coins are the seventh and eighth in a ten-coin series that began in 1995 focusing on aircraft developed in Canada since World War 2. The Discovering Nature Line has four new coins in the collection. The coins feature different types of whales: the Killer, Humpback, Beluga and Blue whales. The Gray Wolf collection consists of platinum coins and features an additional four coins. The coins feature a close-up of a wolf's head, a lone majestic wolf, two wolf cubs at play and a mother with her cubs. The line was originally introduced in 1995. The new coins will be promoted using co-op ads with coin dealers.
