ALMOST HALF OF CANADIANS OWN HOME COMPUTERS

Forty percent of Canadian households own personal computers, according to a study conducted by Environics Research Group Ltd. of Toronto. Of those, over half of the households have access to the Internet, while 31% of Canadians own video game systems. Personal computer owners are typically English-speaking adults under 60-years-of-age, employed full-time as professionals, technicians, or office and sales positions, Their household income is over $35,000 a year. Computer owners with Internet access tend to be males in two age groups, 18 to 29 and 45 to 59. Video game ownership is prevalent among 18 to 44-year-olds, while 74% of the primary players are male. In addition, 42% of the players are over the age of 18. Environics conducted 2,013 interviews between March 13 and April 6 for the study.
