DIESEL MARKETING LANDS BAUER ACCOUNT

Montreal-based Diesel Marketing has added Bauer's global skating account which handles roller hockey skates and ice skates to their portfolio. Incumbent PNMD will still handle the corporate and global hockey accounts which includes hockey sticks, goalie gear and other related items. Bauer decided they wanted to withdraw from the recreational in-line skate market in exchange for the high-end in-line skate market, "The in-line market is now maturing and people who continue to skate will trade up to better performing, more expensive skates," Doug Brett, director of global marketing said. These people no longer want ordinary recrealtional skates, but rather serious cross-training skates and competitive skates, he said. Diesel worked on a project for Bauer in February, they were so impressed with what Diesel did, when the contract with incumbent, PNMD, came up for renewal, Bauer awarded this part of the account to Diesel. "We selected Diesel because we believe they have the right creative and strategic edge, as well as the ability to understand our business," Brett said. The contract started officially May 1st, however trade advertising won't begin until next month, and advertising to the consumer markets in U.S. and German fitness and women's journals will follow a month later.
