U.S.-based International Business Machines Corp. will add three new computers to its Aptiva line of machines by the end of April. The multimedia machines are called the Aptiva E56, E84 and E86 and will be available in North America. The E56 and E84 feature extra open bays and slots for expandability, 266MHz or 300 MHz Pentium processors, either 48 or 64 megabytes of RAM, four gigabyte hard drives and 24X-max CD-ROM drives. The E86 uses digital versatile disk technology, allowing users to play feature-length movies at a higher resolution than on a television screen. In addition, it features 64MB of RAM and an eight gigabyte hard drive. Purchasers of the new computers will receive the World Book Multimedia Encyclopedia CD-ROM, as well as 90 hours or 90 days of Internet access at no charge within local dial areas. In Canada, IBM will promote the new Aptivas using national newspaper ads created by Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto. Canadian PR is done by Goodman Communications of Toronto.
