CHILDREN'S MUSEUM TO BOOST ROM

A non-profit organization will open a museum in November that will be geared to children. Called the Children's Own Museum, the cultural exhibit will be located in Toronto, adjacent to the Royal Ontario Museum, in the McLaughlin Planetarium. The ROM is renting out the space to COM. The museum will feature hands-on and facilitated play-based learning experiences for children aged two to eight years old. The exhibits will stimulate their thinking, imagination and personal growth. Because the museum is non-profit, it will rely heavily on media relations to promote the location. It may do some print ads as well. If it does, the ads will be created in-house. The ROM is hoping that the establishment of an adjacent children's museum will increase the number of families that visit the ROM, especially those with younger children. The McLaughlin Planetarium is owned by ROM. It was closed in December 1995 because it was losing money.
