FORD BRINGS COUNTRY CROONER TO CANADA

Ford of Canada and the Ford and Mercury Dealer Advertising Associations are going country. The carmaker and the associations have signed up country singer Alan Jackson to appear in TV commercials for Ford trucks. The spots promote the F-Series and Ranger trucks, with Alan Jackson singing "Crazy 'bout a Ford Truck," a remake of his hit song, "Mercury Blues." The ads were created by J. Walter Thompson of New York. In Canada, Young & Rubicam of Toronto will handle media buying. In addition, Ford of Canada will co-sponsor the Canadian segment of Jackson's 1998 North American tour which begins in Winnipeg at the end of April. Jackson is entering into his second year as spokesperson for U.S.-based Ford Motor Company trucks. The "Crazy 'bout a Ford Truck commercials are already airing in the U.S.
