HERTZ MOVES INTO CANADIAN EQUIPMENT RENTAL BUSINESS

The Hertz Corp. of Park Ridge, New Jersey is getting into the equipment rental business in Canada. The car rental company has bought Matthews Equipment of Toronto, which rents primarily construction equipment. The move will give Hertz five equipment rental outlets in: Toronto, Barrie, Cambridge and Ottawa, all in Ontario, as well as in Montreal. In Ottawa, the company will operate as Hertz Highrise. The remaining four outlets will operate under the Hertz Matthews banner. Hertz U.S. public affairs manager Paula Stister told Adnews yesterday that it was too early to say how advertising will be handled for the equipment rental business. Those decisions will be made in about a month. Hertz has 135 equipment rental locations in the U.S. and 14 in Europe.
