TWO COMPANIES OFFER LOW-DOSE CHOLESTEROL TREATMENT

Bayer Inc.'s Healthcare Division and Fournier Pharma Inc.'s Thylmer Division are co-marketing a new drug for the treatment of high cholesterol, and haven't decided how to handle its promotions. The duo has not decided on marketing plans for the drug, nor has it hired an agency. The drug, called Baycol, is a low-dose medication that lowers cholesterol. According to Bayer and Fournier, Baycol has few drug interactions and no dosage adjustment is required in the elderly or renally impaired. PR for the drug is being done by Environics Communications of Toronto. According to Bayer and Fournier, 43% of Canadians suffer from high cholesterol. Bayer of Toronto is a research-based company with major businesses in healthcare, chemicals and imaging technologies. It is the Canadian subsidiary of Bayer AG of Germany. Fournier Pharma of Montreal is owned by Group Fournier of France.
