ALLERGAN PROMOTES PSORIASIS SUPPORT

Allergan Inc. of Markham, Ont. launched an education campaign this week to support its psoriasis treatment called Tazorac. The campaign promotes its Tazorac Patient Network, which consists of a support program for psoriasis sufferers. Members will receive a series of mailings over a 12-week period that will help them deal with living with psoriasis. PR, done by Lexicomm Communications of Toronto, is also being used. Advertising for Allergan is created by Remtulla & Associates of Toronto. Psoriasis is characterized by red patches covered by thick, dry silvery scales. It is partly caused by an over-accelerated growth of skin cells. There is no known cure and Allergan believes it can be both physically and psycho-socially disabling. Tazorac was introduced a year ago. It is a water-based topical retinoid gel that contains a synthetic vitamin A derivative. Vitamin A and its derivatives are essential for the development and maintenance of normal outer skin cells. Tazorac clears psoriasis lesions by slowing the growth of skin cells, normalizing their shape and reducing the associated inflammation.
