BERLEX OFFERS INVISIBLE THERAPY

Berlex Canada of Montreal is giving women an invisible treatment to deal with the effects of menopause. The company launched its Climara estrogen replacement patch this week that Berlex says is translucent and can be worn for one-week. In addition, it can be worn during bathing, showering and exercising. Climara lessens the short-term and long-term effects of menopause by delivering estrogen into the bloodstream. The patch is being promoted using print ads in medical journals. The ads were created by Dentsu-Cadence of Toronto. They display an image of a woman’s unclothed back and defy the readers to find the patch. The tagline reads: “The first once-a-week estrogen patch is here. Somewhere.” At menopause there is a reduction of the female hormone estrogen. After its onset, up to 85% of women experience symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, hair loss and genito-urinary symptoms. The long-term effects can include osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.
