EATON'S TAKES NEXT STEP IN RESTRUCTURING
By Adnews Staff
T. Eaton Co. of Toronto announced the latest round in its restructuring. The retailer plans to close three more stores by May 1, and will discontinue selling a range of items, such as furniture, appliances and electronics, in 21 stores. The outlets being closed are in Huntsville, Ont., Vernon, B.C. and Charlottetown. Discontinuing the sale of some items will allow the company to increase the selling space for its fashions and related items. In addition, Eaton's will lay off 560 full-time and 700 part-time employees. Only non-selling positions in stores, logistics and the company's head office will be affected. Eaton's fought its way out of bankruptcy protection last year. After the company closes the additional three stores, it will have 66 outlets across Canada.
