CONFERENCE TO EDUCATE ABOUT NEW MEDIA

A three-day event dealing with new media technology is looking for sponsors and exhibitors. Media company electronic Marché Inc. of Toronto is hosting the event, which is designed to make attendees familiar with such things as the Internet, the World Wide Web and virtual reality. It will take place in Toronto from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1. There will be multimedia demonstrations, a preview of new media products and services, and guided tours of the Internet, web sites, and multimedia and virtual reality installations. Computer artists will give demonstrations of setting up web sites and other installations. "More and more companies and individuals are setting up web sites as part of their new marketing orientation. We need to educate consumers and build their awareness to increase the effective use of these mediums," company co-founder Gary Hierlihy says in a release. Electronic Marché promotes and provides information about new media services to 30 to 55-year-olds. Its founding partners are Hierlihy and Maria Giovannini. Hierlihy has worked in the banking and design industries, for organizations such as The Design Exchange, Institute of Canadian Bankers and Dalhousie University. Giovannini has done public relations for bodies such as the Canadian International Development Agency, the Red Cross Society and Ryerson Polytechnic University. Electronic marché's public relations are handled by Florence Giuly Communications of Toronto.
