COMPAQ PUSHES UP MARCH MADNESS

Compaq Canada of Richmond Hill, Ont. launched a national print campaign last week to encourage the government and education sectors to buy their new computers before March 31, the fiscal year-end. The headline of the ad says: "Madness Usually Hits the Public Sector In March. Why Wait?" The creative features a red office door with a hole through it in the shape of a person's body. Smoke is still smoldering and particles of the door are shattered on the floor. The impression left is that the person has either gone made or has rushed to beat the March madness. The body copy refers to Compaq's desktops, notebooks and servers. The ad closes by telling the reader to visit the computer maker's Web site, to call an authorized public sector reseller or call Compaq. The ad was created by Ammirati & Puris/Lintas of Toronto. It will appear in the January and February government and education publications.
