CRTC DELAYS SPECIALTY CHANNEL HEARING
By Adnews Staff
Canadians may have to wait until at least 1999 for more specialty channels. The Canadian Radio-television & Telecommunications Commission has postponed a hearing to license new specialty channels until no later than the first quarter of that year. The hearing was supposed to be held in February. Over 70 applicants are seeking licenses. In addition, the CRTC imposed a moratorium on the launch of any new U.S. services until all remaining licensed Canadian channels are launched. Sixteen new Canadian specialty channels were launched last October. The preview period lasts until mid-January.
