FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PROMOTES ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Natural Resources Canada has expanded its Reno$ense program for 1998. Now the program involves 3,000 retailers across Canada, as well as manufacturers and energy utilities. Reno$ense educates consumers on energy efficenty and motivates them to consider energy efficency when doing things in the home. The program promotes energy efficiency using TV and print ads created by The Carlton Group of Markham, Ont. Consumer training programs, consumer trade shows and retail trade shows are also used. The Reno$ense Checklist is a magazine that tells consumers what energy efficient products are available. One million copies will be distributed through trade shows. Other highlights of the program include Enercheque, a consumer rebate program distributed through utility billing inserts, and Enertips, a consumer information program distributed through utility billing inserts. New for 1998 is consumer engergy efficiency loyalty program, giving customers an incentive for buying energy efficient products. This is the third year Natural Resources has offered the Reno$ense program.
