SWEDISH TV STATIONS WIN RIGHT TO TARGET KIDS
By Adnews Staff
Six Swedish TV stations have won the right to continue broadcasting ads in Sweden that target children under the age of 12. The stations, TV3, TV6, Kanal 5 and three Swedish-controlled satellite-based commercial stations, broadcast out of London, England. A European court in Luxembourg has ruled they have a right to carry and broadcast ads directed at children under 12. Sweden is the only country in the European Union that still bans advertising targeting children. Under the ruling, the country has the right to object to and take action against certain ads, but cannot impose a blanket ban on all ads carried by satellite TV stations broadcasting into Sweden.
