CONSUMERS STILL INTERNET WARY

Consumers still fear shopping on the Internet, according to a survey done by ACNielsen of Markham, Ont. Only 4% of Canadians have bought products and services over the Internet to date. According to the study, 31% of Canadians aged 12 and over currently use the Internet. Within that group, 13% have already made a purchase via the Internet, up only marginally from the 11% who bought items last year. Eighty-four per cent of Internet users were concerned about using a credit cards to pay for something over the Internet, while 60% were very concerned. Despite concerns about buying products or services over the Internet, 92% said they enjoy using the Internet and 80% said that they found it easy to use. Other key findings include: 20% of all Canadians access the Internet from home, while 11% access it from work and 6% access it from school. People who go on-line daily represent almost 40% of all Internet users and about 12% of all Canadians. Also, more females than ever are using the Internet, with 47% of users now being female and 53% being male.
