WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS SEE STRONG ECONOMY

Almost half of the women running businesses in growth sectors such as manufacturing, transportation and communications expect their sales to grow more than 10% in the coming year, according to a survey done by the Business Development Bank of Canada. Seventeen per cent expect growth to excpeed 25%. Men expect an average growth in sales of 20.6%. Sixty-seven per cent of the female respondents feel current economic conditions are good, while 55% said condition in their particular fields are good. Also, more women are going into business. According to Statistics Canada, the incorporatoin rate for manufacturing businesses owned by women increased by 45% between 1990 and 1995. On top of women's priority lists when it comes to their businesses is developing new markets, developing new products and services and implementing major technological changes. BDC is a financial institution owned by the Government of Canada. It provides financial and management services to Canadian small business, with a focus on the emerging and export sectors of the economy.
