TOSHIBA RELEASES NEW NOTEBOOKS

Markham, Ont.-based Toshiba of Canada has added five new computers to its notebook line up. The machines are called the Tecra 750 DVD, The Libretto 70CT, the Portege 300 CT and the Satellite Pro 460CDX and 480CDT. The Tecra 750 DVD is Toshiba's first notebook with user-swappable DVD-ROM. It also features a 233 MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology, 64 megabytes of RAM, an integrated video conferencing camera and a 5.1 billion byte hard drive. The Libretto 70CT is a mini-notebook computer that weighs 1.8 pounds and features a 120 MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology, 16MB of RAM and a 1.6 billion byte hard drive. The Portege is an ultra-portable machine that weighs 3.7 pounds and features a 10.4-inch TheatreView screen and built-in data/fax/voice modem. The 460 CDX has a 166 MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology, 32MB of RAM, a 2.1 billion byte hard drive, 10X CD-ROM, built-in sound system and a 12.1-inch fast scanning color display. The 480CDT features a faster processor than the 460CDX, a four billion byte hard drive, 10X CD-ROM and a 12.1-inch display with 16.7 million colors. Toshiba is promoting the machines using ads in national newspapers and business magazines. The campaign was created by Promanad Communications of Toronto.
