TV DETECTIVE ANGIE DICKINSON TOUTS TRACKER
By Adnews Staff
The Tracker Corporation of Toronto has signed up a play acting crime sleuth to help track down customers. Movie and television star Angie Dickinson has been recruited to host an infomercial for the service that helps find lost or stolen property. Among her many roles, Dickinson played a police detective on one American TV series. The program-length commercial will begin testing in California in October. Tracker intends to roll it out worldwide eventually, but can't specify a date for airing in Canada. The infomercial is being created by U.S.-based L.L. Knickerbocker Company. People subscribe to the service and label their possessions. If an item disappears and someone else finds it, the finder can call the number on the label. The item is sent to a company within the Tracker network and the label is scanned to bring up the owner's name on a computer. Tracker's U.S. headquarters are in Phoenix, Arizona. Currently, Tracker doesn't advertise in Canada because 99% of its business is in the U.S., Canadian chairman Bruce Lewis told Adnews yesterday. When the company launched its service last November it hired Harrod & Mirlin of Toronto to handle its advertising. After a dispute between agency and client, Tracker paid the agency money owed and the two parted ways, Lewis said. If Tracker does decide to advertise in Canada, it will use L.L. Knickerbocker.
