YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS AWARDS

The Business Development Bank of Canada has presented Young Entrepreneurs Awards to 12 business people across Canada. Ontario's recipient is Digital Renaissance president and CEO Keith Kocho. The winner for Nova Scotia is Dartmouth-based Front-Line Safety president Tom Hickey. British Columbia winner is Ko Lonson Group founder David Kou and the Quebec winner is BHM Medical owner Christian De Grace. This year's Yukon winners are Haylow Enterprises co-owners David Hayley and Leigh Byblow. The Northwest Territories winner is Javaroma Gourmet Coffee and Tea owner Brandan Bell and Saskatchewan's winners are Brainsport Athletics co-founders Debbie Harksen and Brian Michasiw. There are three winners in Alberta: Drs. Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk and Augustine Yip, who own BioWare Corp. The Manitoba winner is Anderson Auto Body owner Lisa Anderson. Two people took top honors in Newfoundland. They are ZEDD-COMM founders Ernad Rizkalla and Anthony Whalen. The Prince Edward Island winner is Timeless Technologies founder Justin MacLeod and the New Brunswick winner is the inventor of TC Probe, Nancy Mathis. The Young Entrepreneurs Awards are presented to entrepreneurs aged 29 and younger. They are judged on operating success, connection with new economy activities, innovation and community involvement. Other factors such as the company's exporting performance, the entrepreneur's age when the business was started and unique challenges they had to overcome are also taken into consideration.
