PHARMASCIENCE OFFERS FEMALE CONDOM

Montreal-based Pharmascience has given Canadian women something to carry in their wallets. The company launched a female condom earlier this month. Called Reality, the company says the condom provides protection from sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy. The condom is a thin, loose-fitting sheath that clings to the inside of the vagina. It has a soft ring at each end. The ring at the closed end is used to insert the condom and keep it in place, while the ring at the open end stays outside the vagina, partly covering the labia. It can be inserted long before sex and doesn't need to be removed immediately afterwards. Pharmascience says Reality is 40% stronger than male latex condoms, yet its polyurethane sheath is also thinner and conducts body heat better, allowing heightened sensitivity. For the first year, Pharmascience will promote Reality through brochures, videos and direct mail, targeting STD and family planning clinics, doctors and pharmacies. The campaign will be created by Ercom Marketing & Design of Montreal.
