ROYAL BANK OFFERS INSURANCE WITH DEBIT CARD PURCHASES

The Royal Bank of Canada will begin offering purchase insurance for those customers that use their Royal Bank debit card to pay for items starting Nov. 1. Customers will be insured against breakage, loss or theft for up to 90 days. If items ae covered by a manufacturer's Canadian warranty, Royal Bank's insurance coverage will be extended for up to an extra year. If a cusomter buys groceries and they are stolen from their car, for example, the customer's auto insurance will cover the loss, excpet for the deductible amount. Under the bank's insurance, the deductible would be covered. If a customer purchases a clock-radio that has a one-year waranty and the item stops working 13 months later, they can call the bank and have the extended warranty feature cover the repair or replacement. The insurance protection will be supported with a national radio and print campaign created by The Gingko Group of Toronto.
