SONY GIVES COUCH POTATOES SOMETHING TO DO
By Adnews Staff
Sony of Canada is giving away exercise machines to promote its Videoscope big screen TVs. Under the deal, customers who buy a Videoscope TV will receive a free exercise glider. Sony will launch a national print ad later this month to support the promotion. The ad features an overweight man holding a Sony TV, so it covers his mid-section. A very muscular abdominal section appears on the TV screen. The headline says: "Buy a Sony. Get a Better Image." The campaign was created by Ranscombe & Co. of Toronto.
Separately, Sony will launch a campaign later this month promoting its Digital PCS phones. The campaign will use newspaper and magazine ads, as well as in-store materials created by Ranscombe. The campaign plays on the common problems associated with cell phones. There are four print ads, each showing a cell-phone-like object made out of different materials. One is made out of rice cereal and the headline says, "No crackle." Another phone is made of demin, and sports the headline, "No fading." The third is made of knives and other sharp objects, with the headline reading, "No cut offs." The fourth ads shows a phone made of honeycomb with the headline, "No buzz."
