COHN & WOLFE BUYS BRITISH PR DIVISION

New York-based Cohn & Wolfe announced yesterday that it has acquired the public relations division of SMI Group, based in London, England. The seven staff members of the division have moved to Cohn & Wolfe's London office, bringing their clients with them. SMI Group is an ad agency with mostly European high-tech companies in its portfolio. "The acquisition of SMI is part of Cohn & Wolfe's millennium plan to become a top-ten agency within five years," said agency president and CEO Steve Aiello. "Our strategic intent is to expand our global technology capabilities to become a major player in this sector. It will also strengthen our ability to serve international multi-office accounts." Cohn & Wolfe's Canadian high-tech clients include Compaq Canada Inc., Lotus Development Canada, Intel Corp., Epson Canada Ltd., Informix (Canada) Software and Multiactive Technologies Inc. Cohn & Wolfe itself is a division of Young & Rubicam Inc.
