MICROCELL EXPANDS SERVICE

Microcell Connexions of Montreal has teamed up with Mobility Canada of Toronto to offer a roaming cellular phone service across Canada by the end of the year. Currently, the company's personal communication service is available in Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa-Hull, Toronto and Vancouver, providing service under the Fido brand name. When the deal becomes effective, Fido customers will be able to trade in their PCS handsets for dual-mode phones that can operate on both PCS and cellular frequencies. The deal will be promoted in an ad campaign created by BOS of Montreal. Microcell launched a roaming service in the U.S. last spring so its Canadian customers could use the cellular service in over 200 American cities. In Europe and Asia, Microcell also has agreements with 15 countries and regions to launch a roaming service in the third quarter of 1997.
