OLC BRINGS HISTORY TO TV
By Adnews Staff
The Ontario Jockey Club is focusing on the history of the Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto to get more people out to the horse races. The organization launched a TV campaign earlier this month that features archival black and white footage that is almost 100 years old combined with color footage. The campaign creates five separate collages that tell five different stories: Woodbine's opening in 1875, the history of the Queen's Plate, the Canadian/American rivalry in the North American Cup, the origins of Thoroughbred racing and the roots of Standardbred racing. The TV campaign is supported by billboards throughout the Toronto area. The headline for the ad promoting Thoroughbred racing is, "Photo finishing done on premises." An ad for Standardbred racing says, "Your chariot awaits." Other billboards are promoting the racetrack as a place to take the whole family. One ad shows a foal and says, "Great legs, baby." The campaign was created by Ranscombe & Co. of Toronto.
