DRUG COMPANIES SWITCH PRODUCTS

McNeil Consumer Products Co. of Ft. Washington, Pennsylvania has bought Motrin pain reliever from Pharmacia & Upjohn. Under the deal, McNeil receives excusive rights to market over-the-counter formulations of Motrin worldwide and to market prescription formulations of Motrin in all areas of the world except in the U.S. and Latin America, where the brand will be licensed back to Pharmacia & Upjohn. McNeil's Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products gets the marketing rights to Pharmacia's antibiotic ointment, Mycitracin. In return, Pharmacia acquires McNeil's Pediacare children's cold and allergy medication, nasal allergy product Nasalcrom and J&J's Micatin topical anti-fungal brand. Canadian advertising for McNeil is done by three Toronto agencies: MacLaren McCann, Reidcorp Advertising Consultants and Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising. Canadian advertising for Pharmacia is also done by three Toronto agencies: Rubel & Schwab Advertising & Communications, Healthwise Creative Resources Group and SMW Advertising.
