ANGUS REID RESEARCHES THE SPORTS FAN

The Angus Reid Group has conducted a national study on sports fans. The survey will cover issues such as sports media consumption, attendance, participation, popularity of sports, teams, athletes and media personalities, as well as the motivations, attitudes and product usage patterns that distinguish different types of sports fans. The study was done to help clients build long-term strategies in the sports arena. "There are a lot of burning questons facing Canada's sports marketers such as new specialty TV services, the decline of interest in some traditional sports and new sports-friendly technologies such as the Internet and pay-per-view. The surveyors interviewed 1500 sports fans aged 16 and over with sample boosts of 400 and 300 in Toronto and Montreal respectively. The study will be available in July.
