TOSHIBA LAUNCHES SLEW OF NEW NOTEBOOKS

Markham, Ont.-based Toshiba of Canada introduced a mini-notebook to the market this week and expanded its lines of Tecra, Portege, Satellite Pro and Satellite notebook computers. The mini-notebook is called the Libretto 50CT. The machine weighs less than two pounds and features a 75MHz Intel Pentium chip, 16MB of RAM, an 810MB hard drive and a 6.1-inch screen. Toshiba has also added two new computers to its Tecra line. Called the 520CDT and the 530CDT, the machines weigh 6.1 pounds and feature 166 Mhz MMX Intel processors, 32MB of RAM and a 10X CD-ROM drive. The new machine in the Portege line is the 300CT ultra portable which weighs less than four pounds. It features 133 Mhz Intel processor with MMX technology, 32MB of RAM and a 1.51GB hard drive. There are three new computers in the Satellite Pro series of machines. Called the 440CDX/CDT and the 460CDT, the computers are geared to the budget-conscious business professional, and feature 133 Mhz processor with MMX technology, 16MB of RAM and 10X CD-ROM drive. The new machine in the Satellite series is the 220CDS. The low-end machine weighs just over six pounds and features a 133MHz pentium processor. The computers are being promoted using newspaper ads and direct mail done by Promanad Communications of Toronto.
