WCB GOES ON SAFETY BLITZ

The Worker's Compensation Board of B.C. is trying to reduce the number of young people injured on the job. The provincial agency launched a safety awareness radio campaign this week that focuses on their rights and responsibilities as workers. In addition, the organizaton has extended its in-classroom program. Beginning this fall, children in kindergarten through to grade 12 will be taught safety awareness. Until now, the program has been taught only to kids in grades 10 to 12. The campaign was created by Cossette Communication-Marketing's Vancouver office. According to the WCB, every 15 minutes of every day a person under 24-years-of-age is injured on the job. The most frequent causes of workplace accidents for this age group are being struck by something and overexertion.
