MOLSON TAKES LABATT TO COURT

Toronto-based Molson Breweries is trying to stir up some more trouble in the beer wars. The company has filed a civil suit in British Columbia stating that Labatt Breweries has misled retailers and the public with inaccurate date codes. Molson says cases of some Labatt brands in Western Canada have different date stamps on the bottles than those that are on the cartons. Labatt says this happened because it stockpiled some freshly bottled beer in cold storage while renovating a brewery. Cold storage keeps the beer fresh. When the brew moved into distribution it had a carton code that showed it was freshly brewed.
