FORGET BRE-X, BC TEL HAS BERYLLIUM

BC Tel is playing on the Bre-X scandal to promote its teleconferencing service. The company recently inserted a newspaper section in the Vancouver edition of The Globe & Mail that highlighted a phony mining conspiracy. The story was called The Beryllium Connection. It traced the escapades of the murderous mining company executive Francine Deveraux as she attempted to control one of the world's largest mineral deposits. The story was a tongue-in-cheek adventure that had BC Tel's teleconferencing saving the lives of several characters as they encountered life-threatening situations. The story also supported the company's offer of 30 free minutes of teleconferencing throughout May. The story was supported by radio and print teaser ads. The campaign was created by Bryant, Fulton & Shee of Vancouver.
